Maternity Session Prep Guide
Celebrating the beauty, strength, and magic of this season in your life
Your Session, Your Style
Maternity sessions are all about celebrating you — your growing belly, your journey into motherhood, and the love surrounding your little one before they even arrive. Whether you want to feel glamorous in a flowing gown, cozy in your favorite sweater, or barefoot in the grass, we’ll create a session that feels authentic and beautiful.
I offer both studio sessions for a polished, intimate feel and outdoor sessions for a dreamy, natural backdrop. We’ll chat about which option feels best for you — or you can combine the two for variety.

My Gorgeous Client Closet
As part of my full-service experience, you have access to my exclusive client closet — a curated collection of stunning maternity gowns in various styles, colors, and sizes. These dresses are designed to flatter your bump, move beautifully in photos, and make you feel amazing. You’re welcome to:
- Choose one or more gowns for your session (we can change mid-session if desired)
- Mix a client closet gown with pieces from your own wardrobe
- Wear only your own clothing if that’s more your style
If You're Wearing Your Own Wardrobe
You don’t have to buy anything new unless you want to — many of my clients already have pieces that work beautifully. Keep these tips in mind:
Fit is key — Choose clothing that highlights your bump without being restrictive.
Colors & textures — Soft neutrals, muted tones, and flowing fabrics photograph beautifully. Avoid busy patterns or large logos.
Layers add variety — A knit cardigan, kimono, or scarf can create different looks in one outfit.

Studio Versus Outdoor Sessions
Studio
- Perfect for a classic, elegant look
- Controlled lighting and temperature
- Great for intimate, skin-baring shots or creative styling
- Dreamy, natural backdrops (golden fields, blooming gardens, waterfronts, etc.)
- Movement and variety in your images
- Best scheduled during golden hour for the prettiest light
When to Schedule Your Session
The best time for maternity photos is typically between 32-36 weeks — your bump is beautifully round, but you’re still comfortable enough to move and pose with ease.
Session Day Tips
Bring options — If you’re unsure, bring a few extra outfits or accessories and we’ll decide together.
Treat yourself — Hair and makeup can make you feel extra special (I’m happy to recommend artists).
Hydrate & snack — Being comfortable helps you feel relaxed and radiant.
Include loved ones — Partners, older children, and even pets can be part of the celebration.

Most Importantly...
This is a time to celebrate you and your growing family. Whether in a gorgeous gown from my closet or a favorite dress from your own, your session will capture the beauty, emotion, and joy of this moment.
